An Historic Stay With Roots in the Heart of St. Louis

The Tuxedo Park Bed & Breakfast was first conceived in the early 1890s as a non-denominational meeting, worship space and Sunday school and last used as a house of worship by Jubilee Church.  In 1895 it opened as the Church at Tuxedo, this landmark property has been part of the Webster Groves community for well over a century. The congregants, needing more space after the building’s first decade of operation, raised funds, hired an architect, and built a more traditional worship space. The additional sanctuary, dedicated in January 1908, suffered a catastrophic fire in 1920, almost ending the building’s short life. The original congregation rallied and restored the main sanctuary and continued to use it until the 1950s. Over the decades, it has served seven congregations, survived fires and floods, and remained a fixture of local heritage — a living reminder of the craftsmanship and spirit that shaped St. Louis County’s historic neighborhoods.

By the early 2000s, the complex had fallen silent, its sanctuary and schoolhouse nearly lost to time. In 2016, the building found new life and the historic space was reenvisioned as a space that would honor its past while welcoming travelers from near and far. Through careful restoration and design, the old Akron Plan auditorium became a bright, communal gathering space, while the original classrooms were transformed into four elegant guest rooms.

Today, we welcome visitors traveling to our local area.  We are close to places like Clayton, Des Peres, Chesterfield, and other Greater St. Louis locales.  Our guests can be centrally located on their next trip to the St. Louis area, and have a relaxing home-base to come back to.  With stunning stained glass, soaring 24-foot ceilings, and detailed woodwork, our house has the  hallmarks of an era when artistry met purpose. What was once a beloved local house of worship now stands as a destination for those seeking a unique experience the next time they want to stay in St. Louis.  We hope to see you the next time you stay in the area!

  • My wife and I stayed there after our wedding and reception. We live close to the B&B but had family staying with us for the wedding. It was an absolutely perfect escape after an amazing day. The room was very comfortable while still having so much character. We had absolutely no issues. The hosts were very accommodating as we came in at a late hour. They had everything ready for us and got us to our room quickly.

The next morning was also a great reprieve as we were made a delicious omelet for breakfast. We chatted with the hosts while we ate. We were happy to get back to family but the Tuxedo Park STL B&B gave us the perfect oasis after an amazing day.

Also, shout out to the pup! Always great to walk into a happy dog wanting to be petted.

  • I stayed 2 nights in June 2018 just as this charming B&B was opening its doors to guests.  So many amenities including the original architecture of this renovated church, beautiful woodwork, comfortable rooms with modern amenities and gracious hosts, the Elliotts.  This B&B is centrally located for any visitor to St. Louis and for me personally, in my favorite neighborhood in Webster Groves, just down the street from where my husband and I bought our first house.

  • I am a St. Louisan who wanted to visit the old church transformed into a B&B because I saw it develop when visiting dear friends who reside on Tuxedo Blvd.  Maureen and Bill welcomed me warmly, gave me personalized background on the church, its transformation and a tour of all the guest rooms.  I stayed overnight in the Rose room, and was enchanted by the tasteful but light “rosiness” of its decor, and exulted in the amazing bathroom / shower en suite facility. I discovered a personal connection with Maureen because of my years in France and her connection with the sister cities St. Louis-Lyon organization.  I heartily recommend this bed and breakfast to locals and visitors to St. Louis alike.

  • I truly can’t say enough about our stay at Tuxedo Park in July of 2018.  From the great breakfasts in that impressive kitchen (the blueberry and cream cheese french toast was amazing!) to the fun nooks and crannies and different sitting areas in the common room to our charming hosts and their sweet dog, this was one of my all time favorite B & B experiences.  And the showers really are out of this world.  I don’t know if it is the high ceilings, raindrop shower head, perfect water pressure and temperature (or a combination of all of these) but I have never had a more wonderful shower in my life.  We can’t wait to visit again!
